Seven Germantown High School female student-athletes and Athletics/Activities Director Mrs. Sara Unertl traveled to Alverno College on Wednesday, February 1st for the first-ever Wisconsin Female Student-Athlete Summit that five local high schools, including Germantown,  put together.  (February 1, 2023 also marked the annual celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day).  Female student-athletes from around the state, representing 24 high schools, were in attendance.  It was an incredible event and many positive take-a-ways were had by all!  Germantown High School graduate Becca Murray was a featured guest speaker and gave an inspiring presentation as well.   

 



Students from Best Buddies attend the Tuesday, January 31 girls' basketball game and are honored at halftime!


The MSG Ski Team took on Oconomowoc, Wauwatosa and Nicolet teams at Sunburst last night, racing Slalom. The Varsity Girls’ Team earned 1st place, and the Varsity Boys’ brought home 2nd place! Top Varsity Girl Finishers were Paige MacIntyre in 5th, and Allie Wink in 17th, out of 30 racers. The Top Varsity Boy Finishers were Nick Peterson in 3rd, and Jackson Butzke in 4th, out of 30 racers. The final MSG Ski Team race is next Wednesday (February 8th) at Sunburst Ski Hill. Come on out and cheer on these athletes! Go MSG!


GHS’s local HOSA Chapter (Future Health Professionals) competed in 23 different events at their Regional Leadership Conference this January. Of the 55 students that competed-29 earned a spot at the State Leadership Conference-with an additional student offered an alternate spot. Earning Gold was Sam Norris- Life Support Skills, Angela Zheng- Pharmacy Science, Max Gereau- Healthy Lifestyle, and Emersyn Coulter- Researched Persuasive Writing & Speaking. Good luck to all competitors at the State competition in April in Wisconsin Dells. At the group’s February meeting they were fortunate to host Mrs. Goradia, a local pharmacist who gave an informative talk.  Thank you!


The GHS Varsity Bowling Team won the district roll off so they are district 1 champs!  They ended the regular season 13-0 in match play and are headed to the HS Bowling State tournament in Wausau, WI  March 3-5th.  They were led by seniors Tyler Villeneuve and Justin Mahr who were also singles qualifiers!

The Germantown Ice Fishing Team participated in the W.I.F.A. North/South Tag-Team Trifecta Tournament last weekend. Germantown's partner team for the tournament was Three Lakes H.S.  Combined, the Three Lakes/Germantown team combined to catch 267.25" of fish, which earned the team a third place finish. The team narrowly missed second place by just 1.50 inches, and first place by 4.50 inches.  The team will travel to Eagle Lake in Burlington next weekend for their final tournament before the W.I.F.A. State Tournament.

Last weekend the Germantown Warchix went to Watertown and competed at Regionals.  They were named Regional Champions placing 1st in D2 Pom and 1st in D1 Kick!  Well done to all!  The Warchix will be leaving Friday night to compete at State in La Crosse on Saturday! Go Warchix! 


Good luck to the GHS Boys' Basketball Team as they take on Wauwatosa East tonight away!


Last Friday the GHS Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team defeated Wauwatosa West 81-52 with four players scoring in double figures. KK Arnold led the way with 17 points to go with 11 rebounds and 8 assists, Lucy Leininger had 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists, Danica Gosz had 13 points and Josie Pliszka added 11 points. 


On Tuesday the girls beat DSHA 62-49, ending the game on a 25-10 run in the last 15 minutes. KK Arnold had 25 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists in the win. Lucy Leininger (17 points) and Danica Gosz (10 points) also reached double figures in the scoring column. 


The two wins improved the Warhawks record to 16-4 on the season, 11-2 in conference play.


Congratulations to the Germantown/Menomonee Falls Gymnastics Team on their 3rd place finish at their invitational last weekend!  Fynn Langley took first in the vault and Emmy Coulter took fourth.  Fynn also tied for fourth in the bars and took third in the floor routine.    In the all around, Fynn was fourth and Emmy fifth.  Congratulations to all!


The Ice Bears played Whitefish Bay (WNS) last Friday night in their annual Military Appreciation Night game. This was a big game not just because it was military night, but it was also a conference game. The team struck first, scoring about three and a half minutes into the game. WNS would respond and tie it up with about a minute and a half left in the first period. The Bears would respond again with a goal at the 8:22 mark of the second period which was scored by Reid Newkirk. WNS would reply with a game tying goal at 9:52. The Bears would take a 3-2 lead into the third period when Trevor Newkirk assisted on a goal at 12:33 of the second period. In the 3rd period the Bears were able to put in two more goals to WNS's single goal, winning the game 5-3. 


On Wednesday the team took on Cedarburg for another conference game. The game started slow with a 0-0 tie after the first period. The Bears were able to put 3 goals in in the 3rd period, one of which was assisted by Trevor Newkirk. In the 3rd period the Bears were able to put in 3 more goals, one scored by Stone Daczka and another by Reid Newkirk. Daczka also had two assists and Reid and Trevor Newkirk assisted a goal each in the third. The team went on to win the game 6-0. With that win the team wins the conference for a third year in a row!  Congratulations!

Good luck to the girls' hockey co-op team as they are back in action on Wednesday, February 8 at Ozaukee Ice Center for a 7:10pm game!


This past weekend the GHS Boys' Swim Team competed in Varsity Conference at Waukesha South High School.  The medley relay team of Jayden Knight, Connor Warmke, Aiden Schelfout, and Brett Haensgen took 6th place overall.  Ryan Schraufnagel dropped over 2 secs in his 100 freestyle.  Brett Haensgen dropped nearly a second in his 100 freestyle.  Connor Warmke dropped over 2 seconds in his 100 breaststroke.  


This week the boys began their taper process which means they will slowly decrease both the yardage and intensity of practices to allow their muscles to rest.  They will travel to Fond du Lac next Saturday to compete in their final, regularly scheduled, meet of the season, Sectionals.  Only the top 16 times in each event, from across the state will advance to the State Meet on Saturday, February 18.  Keep up the good work!
