International Women’s Day Fact #4 brought to you by EWS on Poverty and Global Challenges:
Gender inequality also affects poverty and opportunity worldwide. Extreme poverty is defined internationally as living on less than $2.15 a day. Around 376 million women and girls currently live below this threshold worldwide. According to data from UN Women, more than 350 million women and girls could still be living in extreme poverty by 2030 if progress does not accelerate. Women and girls are more likely than men to live in extreme poverty, especially in regions with limited access to education and employment. Globally, about 64 million more women than men experience moderate or severe food insecurity, showing how inequality affects access to food and nutrition. These statistics show why the International Women’s Day theme “Accelerate Action” is so important. Reducing poverty and inequality requires expanding access to education, jobs, healthcare, and leadership opportunities for women and girls. When women have equal opportunities, families, communities, and entire economies benefit. GHS students can take action by learning about global issues, supporting organizations that promote education and opportunity, and advocating for fairness and respect for all people.
Attention Juniors and Seniors. The following Colleges and Universities will be here at Germantown High School for informational meetings. If you are interested in attending this meeting, please sign up in Securly.
