CasenCasenHockeyThe Lakeshore Lightning Girls' Hockey Team got off to a fast start in the WIAA Regionals with a 7-0 win over visiting Arrowhead!  The team followed that up with a 2-1 victory Tuesday over University School, a team that twice defeated the Lightning in conference play this year.  The Lightning jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and stretch it to 2-0 in the 2nd period before University School cut the lead back to 2-1 on a deflected goal.  With 1:46 left, the Lightning were called for a penalty and University School pulled their goalie for almost a 2 minute 6 on 4 advantage.  With the top penalty killing unit in the State, Lakeshore was able to run out the game and advance to the Sectional Final.

The Lakeshore faces off against defending State Champion Bay Area at 4:30 Friday at the UW Panther Arena with a berth to State on the line. Good luck!

BasketballGermantown Warhawks Celebrate Seniors with 97–67 Win Over Sussex Hamilton Chargers

Senior Night was everything it was meant to be and more, as Germantown rolled to a decisive 97–67 victory over Sussex Hamilton in front of a packed home crowd.

With the program honoring Cahlil Jones, JJ Walters, Darrius Peete, Payton Laabs, AJ Melcher, and Dylan Merryfield, the Warhawks delivered one of their most complete performances of the season — shooting a scorching 61.7% from the field, 41.7% from three-point range, and finishing with 18 assists on 37 made baskets.

The six seniors made sure their final home-court celebration was one to remember.

JJ Walters led all scorers with 21 points, attacking downhill and going 8-of-9 from the free-throw line. He added seven rebounds and six assists, impacting every phase of the game.

Darrius Peete followed with 18 points, knocking down three triples and providing steady scoring throughout the night.

Floor general Cahlil Jones controlled the tempo, finishing with 17 points, seven assists, and six steals, turning defense into transition opportunities that energized the home crowd.

Inside, Dylan Merryfield was dominant on the glass, collecting eight rebounds while scoring 11 points on an efficient 5-of-6 shooting effort. He also protected the rim with two blocks.

Payton Laabs was flawless offensively, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc for eight points, while contributing three rebounds and three assists.

AJ Melcher drilled a three-pointer and provided spacing and senior leadership that helped keep the offense flowing.

The Germantown Warhawks etched their names into program history on February 26, capturing their first-ever Greater Metro Conference Championship with a thrilling 78-77 victory over Wauwatosa East Red Raiders.

In a game that lived up to championship billing, the Warhawks survived a back-and-forth battle that wasn’t decided until the final seconds. Clutch free throws and key defensive stops down the stretch allowed Germantown to hold off a late push from Tosa East and secure the one-point win.

Germantown shot an efficient 53.3 percent (24-for-45) from the field and an impressive 43.5 percent (10-for-23) from three-point range. The Warhawks also converted 20 of 27 free throws (74.1 percent), proving crucial in a one-possession contest.

Senior Darrius Peete led the way with 23 points, knocking down 7 of 11 shots from the floor, including 2 of 5 from beyond the arc, and going 7-for-9 at the line. Peete consistently attacked the basket and delivered in key moments to keep Germantown in control.

Senior Dylan Merryfield turned in a dominant all-around performance, finishing with 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting and a red-hot 3-of-4 from deep. Merryfield also controlled the glass, pulling down 11 rebounds — including 10 defensive boards — to anchor the Warhawks inside.

Cahlil Jones added 15 points and the game winning shot. He dished out a team-high five assists, while JJ Walters chipped in 10 points and four rebounds. Off the bench, junior Aidan Bonner provided a spark with eight points, hitting both of his three-point attempts and going a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line.
