Boys BBallGermantown Survives Thriller, Tops New Berlin Eisenhower 68–67 Behind Balanced Effort

Germantown opened its season in dramatic fashion on December 3, edging New Berlin Eisenhower 68–67 in a nail-biter that showcased poise, depth, and timely execution across the roster.

The Warhawks’ attack was led by a standout performance from Dylan Merryfield, who powered the offense with 18 points while also controlling the glass with 8 rebounds. His inside presence steadied Germantown throughout the night, especially during key stretches when Eisenhower threatened to seize momentum.

JJ Walters added 17 points and came through as the hero as he delivered the game-winning basket in the final moments to seal the win for the Warhawks

Aidan Bonner contributed 13 points, giving the Warhawks another reliable scoring option. His ability to create offense helped Germantown navigate Eisenhower’s defensive pressure and keep the game within reach before the closing moments.

Perhaps the most quietly valuable performance, though, came from Payton Laabs, who logged an impressive 35 minutes while recording 5 assists, committing zero turnovers, and providing steady leadership at the point. Laabs’ efficiency and decision-making were essential in a one-point game where every mistake could have been costly.

Off the bench, Cole Reiter delivered a huge spark in limited time, scoring 9 points in just 8 minutes while going perfect from the field. His instant offense helped Germantown swing momentum and proved vital in such a tight contest.

Darrius Peete chipped in 8 points, rounding out a well-balanced scoring effort that allowed Germantown to keep pressure on the Lions throughout.

In the final moments, the Warhawks’ composure proved to be the difference. With stops on the defensive end and disciplined execution on offense, Germantown held off Eisenhower’s last push to secure the 68–67 victory.

The win gives Germantown an exhilarating start to its season and sets the tone for a team that showed depth, toughness, and the ability to deliver under pressure.
