Cross-Country Sectionals – October 21st, 2023

The team's top 7 runners would face their toughest challenge of the season: a difficult course and strong competition for spots in next week’s state meet.  Heritage Trails County Park is a beautiful venue for a cross-country meet, but the rolling terrain, steep hills, and rocks and roots in the woods are a staunch test for even seasoned runners.  With the support of their teammates, family, and friends, the varsity squad faced it head on.

Samyiah Fox led the team to a 4th place finish (in 2022 we were 5th), with Gracie Ballesteros, Kierta Siegert, Lizzy Liker, and Keira Lorbecki completing our team score.  Katy Morin and Elise Olson also competed, running hard to the finish.  There is no doubt the girls gave everything they had, and left it all out on the course.  The coaching staff could not be prouder of this fine group of young ladies!

Samyiah’s 8th place finish qualified her for the state meet, a repeat appearance with 2 years in a row.  There is 1 more week of preparation, and then she’ll face a bigger challenge: The Ridges course in Wisconsin Rapids with 189 other runners in the D1 Girls race.  Good luck Samyiah!

Here's the recap for Thursday's meet; Saturday's meet recap to follow:

Meet of Future Champions – October 19th, 2023

For those not running sectionals on Saturday, this meet was their last chance to finish the season on a high note, and the girls’ cross-country team hit one out of the park!  Even with rain again this week, the girls ran with strength and fortitude, besting their times on the same course they ran last week for the conference meet.  The team had 21 girls run, with 17 of them setting new PRs, along with 1 season best.

Carley Lorbecki led everyone with a time of 21:43, cracking the 22-minute barrier for the first time.  Running PRs under 23 minutes were Lauren Reineck, Emily Laitinen, Anne Drinan, and Savannah Wendorf.  Going sub-24 minutes for the first time were Ella Molnar, Paige Greisch, Elyse Steuerwald, Ellie Ankerson, Clare Kanters, and Ava Borchardt.  Running sub-25 minutes were Alissa Lorbecki, Natalia Koritkova, and Dacoda AndersonBooke Jakubowski ran a new season best, and Ella Gouthro, Brooklyn Chesir, and Cassie Zarder all broke the 29-minute barrier for the first time.

It has been an exceptional season, and the girls should be proud of the work they have put in, and the results they have achieved.  Coach Wehner couldn’t ask for a finer group to work with, and he wishes them the best in the coming off-season.

Good luck to the football team as they take on Slinger tonight at 7pm in a Level Two Playoff game.  You can purchase tickets HERE for the game at Slinger tonight.  GO HAWKS!
