Our search firm partner, Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates (HYA), has completed and presented our District Leadership Profile based on your feedback.

Thank you to everyone who participated.

The process continues as we seek the right leader, while remaining committed to engaging with the community to understand everyone’s needs and aspirations.

The search process has involved focus groups, surveys, and listening sessions, all aimed at gathering input from various representatives. HYA asked each group the same core questions, focusing on what you value in our district and the challenges we face. This approach ensured community voices were heard, setting a solid foundation for our next leader.

Acknowledging Strengths

The findings from the engagement process revealed several strengths:

• Welcoming Environment: Germantown is seen as a supportive community where people choose to raise their families.

• Dedicated Staff: Teachers and staff are recognized for going above and beyond for their students.

• Student Preparedness: Students feel well-prepared for post-high school opportunities, whether in further education, service, apprenticeships or employment.

These positives reflect a strong district culture, which is crucial for attracting the right candidate.

Opportunities Ahead

The process and report did also highlight some opportunities for growth:

• Trust and Transparency: A recurring theme was the need for increased trust and transparency from the board and administration. "Perception becomes reality," emphasizing that how the community perceives leadership can significantly impact morale.

• Staff Retention: The report indicated concerns about retaining staff, particularly given competition for educators from neighboring districts. Ensuring staff feel valued is essential for maintaining a stable environment for students.

• Fiscal Management: While financial management was seen as strong, there is a desire for greater assurance that student needs are prioritized in budget decisions.

Looking Forward

As the search continues, it is vital for our district to address these challenges head-on. This engagement process is about more than data collection; it’s about fostering community trust and building a collaborative future. Our board's commitment to listening and acting on community feedback will be essential in making the right choice for the new superintendent.

In the words of HYA’s presenter, "You're a great school district, and you have a lot to be proud of." As Germantown moves forward, embracing both its strengths and its opportunities will pave the way for continued growth and success.
