On Monday, February 5, 2024, Germantown High School welcomed Wisconsin State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly and members of her team to kick off Career and Technical Education (CTE) month. CTE Month is celebrated in February across Wisconsin and highlights different courses such as Technical Education, Business, and Family and Consumer Sciences, which play a pivotal role in shaping students’ future endeavors.
Touring CTE Classes
During the visit, several of our dynamic CTE classes were observed:
Mr. Voster’s Introduction to Engineering Design class showcased students immersed in a reverse engineering project, designing a water heater tube for a coffee maker using OnShape, a computer-aided drafting program.
Manufacturing with Mr. Larabee delved into a lesson about the intricacies of precision measurements and blueprints.
Whisking away to Ms. Seramur’s Foods One class, Dr. Underly shared a few tips and tricks with students as they participated in a delectable chocolate cake lab.
Mr. Muenzmaier’s Automotive Technology class offered a hands-on exploration of engine disassembly and assembly, fostering practical skills in the automotive industry.
The tour concluded in Mr. Stachowiak’s Woodworking class, where he discussed the many offerings within the Tech Ed department at GHS.
Student Panel
The highlight of the visit may have been a captivating student-led panel discussion featuring juniors and seniors recommended by CTE staff. This impressive group of students, including Arjun Chopra, Evan Schmitt, Angela Zheng, Ravi Goradia, and Claire Reedy, showcased their leadership and achievements in various CTE programs, from business and culinary to healthcare and engineering. This included their involvement in leading FBLA/DECA, winning the state SkillsUSA culinary championship, HOSA on a local and state level, connecting with students as an elementary TA, and building extensive engineering experiences through GHS courses and SkillsUSA.
Embodying what it means to be a Warhawk, these five individuals have taken advantage of the many opportunities at GHS to best prepare themselves for their post-high school aspirations. Dr. Underly and her team and GHS and GSD administrators were very impressed by the skills, accomplishments, and experiences they developed.
