Beginner Pre-comp is the first of 5 highly structured groups geared toward preparation of young swimmers for competitive swimming.  Prerequisites to this group include swimmers that are still learning the basic water skills including fully submerging their body for 5 seconds, floating (with support) on their back and front and basic kicking (with support).  Swimmers must be comfortable putting their face in the water.

Bronze Pre-comp Prerequisites to this group include previous experience/exposure to swimming freestyle (front crawl) and backstroke. Swimmers in this group are working to refine their freestyle and backstroke technique to efficiently complete 25 yards of each stroke. This group introduces competitive swimming skills such as appropriate streamline push-offs, backstroke starts, and flip turns.

Silver Pre-comp Prerequisites to this group include the ability to maintain basic stroke technique for freestyle and backstroke for 10 yards. Swimmers in this group continue to refine their freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke technique and build endurance in order to efficiently complete 25 yards of each stroke. This group also targets competitive swimming skills such as development of flip turns and introduction to backstroke finishes.

Gold Pre-comp Prerequisites to this group include the ability to maintain proper freestyle and backstroke technique for 15 yards and the demonstration of basic breaststroke technique. Swimmers in this group increase their endurance in freestyle and backstroke to complete 25 yards of each stroke while maintaining proper stroke technique and work to refine breaststroke technique to ensure legal execution of the breaststroke kick. This group is introduced to butterfly, breaststroke/butterfly finishes, and racing starts (dives) and works to refine flip turns and backstroke finishes.  Swimmers must be comfortable in deep water and able to tread water for 1 minute.

Superstars Pre-comp This is the final group in the Pre-Comp progression where swimmers continue to focus on proper stroke technique for the four competitive swimming strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly). Prerequisites to this group include the ability to maintain proper freestyle and backstroke technique for 25 yards and the demonstration of breaststroke and butterfly technique for at least 10 yards. Swimmers in this group will work on all competitive swimming skills (diving, finishes, turns).
