Dual Credit Programs

Dual credit courses allow eligible students to take a single course and simultaneously earn credit both at the high school level and at the postsecondary level (technical colleges or four-year college/universities). In addition to earning postsecondary credit while still in high school, dual credit courses can benefit students by providing them with the opportunity to:

  • Experience a rigorous college course while in the familiar environment of high school

  • Develop the study and time management skills necessary for future academic success in their postsecondary studies

  • Ease the transition to postsecondary education

  • Earn credits at a reduced rate

  • Provide future academic flexibility to study abroad, pursue additional academic subjects, register for classes earlier, graduate early, etc.

The dual credit courses offered at Germantown High School are college-level courses: the content, assessments, and classroom requirements are identical to those taught on the respective postsecondary campuses. GHS staff who teach dual credit courses have been reviewed and approved by the postsecondary institutions and then work cooperatively with faculty members from the respective postsecondary institutions to implement the dual credit courses.

The credits students earn through dual credit courses are actual college credits earned at the partnering college. At the end of the dual credit course, students will have an official transcript from the partnering postsecondary institution, which will include the grade(s) and credits earned. That transcript can be sent to other postsecondary institutions for the purposes of credit transfer.

Listed below are the courses offered at Germantown High School that are available for dual credit, the colleges that issue the transcript credits, and the requirements for earning those credits.
