Advanced Placement Program

The Advanced Placement (AP) Program offers students a rigorous curriculum with the addition of an opportunity to pursue college-level studies while still in secondary school and receive advanced placement and/or credit upon entering college. The GHS Advanced Placement program offers numerous courses representing a variety of discipline areas to support 18 different AP Exams.

In order to receive college credit, students must take a test designated by the College Board in May. Students must score at a required level on the test in May in order to be eligible for college credit.

The benefits for a student selecting these courses are many:
• Allows students to excel in their chosen area of interest or strength.
• Provides the academic challenge needed to maximize the potential of college-bound students.
• Motivates students to improve study habits.
• Permits students to “bank” credit for college graduation while also permitting students to fulfill core requirements at the high school level.

GHS encourages students to take Advanced Placement courses in their areas of strength/interest. Tests are scored on a 1–5 scale, and a score of 3 or above may make the student eligible for college credit depending on the individual college or university policy.

Students who are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches under the federal school lunch program may request the fee waiver paperwork in Student Services.
